Payroll-Based Journal Reporting Requirements
Effective July 1, 2016 CMS required all skilled nursing facilities to collect and submit total direct care hours worked per employee per day (including agency and contract staff), employee hire and termination dates, and facility census.
Direct Care Hours
Knowing what hours should and should not be reported in the PBJ submission will go a long way to compiling a complete and accurate file for submission. CMS has defined 35 job codes to be used when reporting direct care hours worked.
Employee Turnover & Tenure
As part of the Payroll-Based Journal reporting requirements, providers must include hire and termination dates for all direct care staff including agency and contract staff.
In addition to staffing data, PBJ reporting requires that census information be provided for the last day of each month.
