'Tis The Season For Giving Back & Spreading Holiday Cheer

December 18, 2018 | Mark Woodka

happy holidays from OnShiftEvery year I say the same thing: I can’t believe another year has passed. Well, this year is no different. Someone somewhere said, “time flies when you’re having fun,” so I will attribute the feeling of fleeting time to that.

That said, while the holidays are an opportunity to reflect on all the things that make our lives so wonderful, it’s also a time to support those that are less fortunate.

For the past five years, OnShift has participated in Home Instead Senior Care’s Be A Santa To A Senior initiative, which collects gifts for seniors that might not otherwise receive them. Each year we take gift requests from seniors around Northeast Ohio, who ask for items ranging from new bed sheets and hand towels, to sweaters and robes. Then, the awesome employees here at OnShift fill those requests.

This year, our employees provided gifts for 180 seniors in our area. Many were taken aback by the simple requests received – such as cleaning supplies and cologne – and purchased additional gifts to help make this holiday season a little brighter. In addition to the presents, OnShift applied for and received a grant from Enterprise Holdings Foundation (the charitable arm of Enterprise Rent-A-Car), which we also donated to Home Instead Senior Care.

Before the gifts are collected, we have a little wrapping party and listen to some holiday music. This year we captured the magic on camera. I hope this video inspires you to give back in any way you can this season. Whether that’s donating monetary items or volunteering your time at a local soup kitchen. Happy holidays, everyone, and may we all have good fortune in the new year.
