This past Friday, OnShift warmly welcomed Mabel Johnson, a lively 102-year old United States Coast Guard veteran, visiting from Kansas City, Mo. Ms. Johnson was working for the USCG in our current Cleveland office space on VE Day—Victory in Europe Day—when the whole city was alive with celebration after the end of World War II in Europe.
With her daughter, son and a USCG escort by her side, she reenacted the festivities that ensued on that monumental day. Throwing red, white and blue confetti out the 16th floor window of the Keith building in Playhouse Square, Ms. Johnson recounted her memories of that day, her eyes lighting up as she addressed the room full of people.
It was such a delight for all of us at OnShift to meet her and hear her inspiring story. After the commemorative confetti toss, Johnson turned to her audience and expressed her sincere appreciation for making her visit possible. To honor her and thank her for her service, Ms. Johnson was surprised with a digitally scanned artist’s rendering of the building and other Cleveland-related goodies. I was also thrilled to announce that OnShift will be renaming the 16th floor space the “Mabel Johnson Conference Room.”
Thank you for your dedication to your country and thank you for sharing your special visit with us, Mabel.
