Senior Care Perspectives: Retaining Today’s Workforce

Millennials now comprise the largest share of the overall workforce. This, paired with historically low unemployment rates, and wage increases in competing industries such as retail and hospitality, has sparked a change in senior care—one that requires a new focus on employee engagement and retention. As Ryan Novaczyk, president and CFO, New Perspective Senior Living notes, “It’s a change that presents both a challenge and an opportunity.”

Simply providing a paycheck and job description is not enough to retain today’s workforce, as employees refuse to settle for the status quo. Providers must up their engagement and retention strategies to compete.

In many cases, this means placing a high priority on things like redefining their company culture, providing regular, individualized feedback and utilizing modern technologies, such as staff scheduling software to help make employees’ lives easier.
