I’m excited to announce the release of our 2021 Workforce 360 Survey Report. This annual report is part of our continuous dedication to the senior care industry and our desire to deliver impactful workforce insights to providers. Over 2,000 industry professionals participated in our survey, sharing their perspectives on the top workforce challenges, as well as insights into their efforts to improve recruitment, retention and overall employee satisfaction. Thank you to everyone who participated in our survey this year!

Staffing challenges have been no secret to the industry. Our recent survey revealed that 96% of respondents are facing a staffing shortage, with 79% citing this as their top workforce challenge. As a result, providers are struggling to consistently fill shifts and over a third indicated that staffing shortages have impacted their ability to take on new admissions and move-ins. In turn, agency reliance has risen 71% since 2020.

As the report shows, providers believe many of the challenges they face today will remain the same or worsen over the next three years. In response, the vast majority are placing a high priority on retention efforts and how they can best differentiate themselves in this highly competitive market.

Additional key findings include:

  • Perks aligned with workforce expectations. 64% offer or plan to offer bonus pay for working difficult shifts while 49% have or are considering rewards and recognition programs to engage and retain employees.
  • Burnout felt at all levels. 79% of respondents believe burnout is the top personal challenge facing caregivers & hourly employees with nearly 90% of respondents also citing elevated levels of stress and/or burnout.
  • DEI is a 2022 priority. 89% of respondents indicated diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts were a priority for the coming year, with 50% citing it as a high priority.

I invite you to download the full report for more insights and to see how your organization compares and to see how others are redefining the employee experience to build a stable, consistent workforce.
