Standards of Senior Living Encourage Commitment to Excellence

Written by James Balda | Jun 22, 2016 7:00:00 PM

This year, Argentum launched the first phase of professional standards for operators of senior living communities, complementing the state laws and regulations governing the operation of those communities. The standards represent an essential part of demonstrating the senior living industry’s commitment to excellence in consumer and resident rights, quality improvement, workforce practices and regulatory compliance.  With additional attestations forthcoming, nearly 2,000 communities from member and non-member owners/operators already have attested their compliance to these standards. Representatives from those communities were publicly recognized at the 2016 Argentum Senior Living Executive Conference in May 2016, and they wore an “I Attested” sticker to highlight their communities’ participation in the program.

Standards compliance is a meaningful symbol that a senior living community meets demanding quality expectations.  It provides peace of mind to residents and their families, demonstrating that extra steps have been taken to ensure comfort, health and happiness.  Those communities that conform to the standards are presented with the Argentum Quality in Senior Living Certificate for display at their community and for use in marketing and promotional materials.

Argentum is continuing to gather insight from internal and external partners in order to expand on the Phase 1 standards and help identify more comprehensive quality standards for Phase 2 and beyond.  Over time, the standards developed will include a collection of key quality indicators to benchmark and track a community’s quality improvement.
