It’s that time of year – the 2013 National Nursing Home Week is upon us. For me it’s an opportunity to reflect and extend a heart-felt thanks to everyone working in the nursing home industry. I’m not a nurse but I spend my days working side-by-side with the men and women who provide care across this industry, which gives me an insider’s perspective. For those of you outside of the industry reading this blog, let’s just say that working in a nursing home is one of the most challenging and rewarding careers out there.
I have met some of the most extraordinary people from this industry with stories that rival even the most heart-felt, tear-jerking Lifetime movies. I’ve seen nurses personally drive to stores for supplies, paying with funds out of their own pockets, for their residents when the facility runs short. I know individuals that devote personal time to lonely residents when they are off the clock and act as family to those that have none. These brave caregivers are there to hold the hand of the individuals as they cling to the last days of their lives and help them face their fears.
OnShift and I would like to thank all the dedicated men and women of this industry. You are the true heroes and we are proud to celebrate your achievements.
