While I was watching the Winter Olympics (yes, I was cheering for the Jamaican bobsled team – how could I not?!), I was reminded of the talent and dedication that drive world-class winning teams. It made me think of some very special and worthy winners of our own – the OnShift Scheduler of the Year Award recipients. It gives me great pleasure to recognize these online scheduling champions for their gold medal efforts!

I am thrilled to announce the winners of our Third Annual Scheduler of the Year Awards. We received over 100 nominations from customers across the country. The competition was fierce, as the nominees truly made an impact on their fellow employees, across their operations, and among the residents in their communities.

This year’s winners demonstrated flexibility and accountability and worked tirelessly to make sure that day-to-day schedules met the needs of employees as well as their organizations. One winner’s nomination shared that their scheduler “has mastered the art of working with vacations, personal days, and sick days. Schedules are developed with consideration of residents and employee needs.”

The winners are recognized for their use of OnShift and their willingness to go the extra mile when it comes to staff scheduling, which is reflected in their organizational successes:

  • One scheduler “cut overtime to zero, keeps in constant contact with employees, and manages the schedule with proficiency.”
  • “The nurses are now much more involved in assuring that their quality initiatives are being met with staffing.”
  • “Our scheduler has embraced the company initiative to provide quality care to the residents, as well as employee support while managing our PPD and overtime.”
  • “Staff morale has remained high by working fully staffed.”
  • “By ensuring staff to provide quality care, we have improved on initiatives such as decreasing falls by 50% and improved pressure ulcer percentage by 9%.”

It is with great excitement that I present to you the Scheduler of the Year Award winners:

  • Lisa Battistelli, Osprey Village, Senior Living Communities
  • Shawna Garwood, Celina Manor, HCF Management Inc.
  • Chuck Hillier, Altercare of Mentor Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing Care, Altercare of Ohio
  • Beth Secord, Burcham Hills, Brookdale Senior Living
  • Hailey Wetherbee, Kendal at Hanover, The Kendal Corporation
  • Lynn Zeman, Tudor Oaks, American Baptist Homes of the Midwest

We are also recognizing an “OnShift Champion” for creativity in scheduling practices and driving employee adoption of OnShift, which has helped support a culture to better serve senior care employees and their residents. This award recipient added employee incentives for picking up shifts and even created an “Undercover Boss” contest!

  • Audrey Toepper, National Church Residences Mill Run

I can’t say enough good things about this year’s winners. They are the rock stars of scheduling in senior care!

Thanks to all of you for your nominations and for partnering with OnShift. The entire OnShift team is dedicated to creating products and services that make your lives easier, your outcomes better and your operations more cost-effective and efficient through staff scheduling. I was particularly humbled by one nomination that shared, “We couldn't imagine our daily lives without OnShift doing ‘the heavy lifting’ for all of us.” We are happy to do some “heavy lifting” so you have more time and focus to do what matters most – providing quality care to your residents. Now that’s something that I’d say is worthy of a gold medal, each and every day.
