Why Providers Need To Start Thinking About Mobile Recruitment

August 17, 2018 | Tommy Marzella

mobile recruitment in senior careThe workforce shortage in senior care isn’t going anywhere – at least anytime soon. Between low unemployment (3.9%), high turnover (51% median for CNA in long-term care and 36% median caregiver turnover in senior living), and the growing number of open positions (113% growth in the last six months), providers across the nation are struggling to attract and retain caregivers.

With on-demand economies on the rise and an abundance of employment options, candidates have more options than ever before. And with the rise in employment opportunities, oftentimes it comes down to who makes the first offer.

According to research, the average person checks their phone 150 times per day and 95% of text messages are read within three minutes. With incredibly high engagement on mobile devices, organizations have begun incorporating text message recruitment into the hiring process, often speeding up time-to-hire and increasing candidate engagement. If you’re still thinking about whether or not mobile recruitment is right for your senior care organization, here are three reasons you should give it a try.

1. Communication Preferences Are Changing
Research has shown that texting is the preferred method of communication for candidates between the ages of 18 and 44. We’ve all seen that phone call come in from a number that we don’t recognize and often it’s easy to hit ignore (only to check the voicemail 10 days later). Not only will your candidates see a text message immediately, but this method feels personal and eliminates having to play phone tag.

2. Engagement Rates Are Incredible
A recent study shows that SMS response rates are at 45%, while email sits at only 8%. With SMS responses outranking email by 462.5% it makes sense that organizations are moving towards mobile recruitment. Stronger applicant engagement makes it easy to connect with your candidates from the very beginning. And the earlier you’re able to connect with your candidates, the better experience you’ll be able to give them throughout their hiring process.

3. A Better Candidate Experience At Scale
According to CareerArc, “nearly 60% of candidates have had a poor candidate experience and 72% of them shared that experience either online or with someone directly.” Texting messaging kicks off the candidate experience in a positive, memorable way to provide the same great experience for every candidate.

As candidate preferences continue to change, it’s important to adjust your communication methods to ensure the best candidate experience. With high engagement rates and stronger results, senior care organizations will continue to move to text message recruiting methods to overcome the persistent staffing the crisis.
